About Aids Hilfe Bern
At Aids Hilfe Bern we are here to answer your questions about sexuality, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Aids Hilfe Bern provides support and information for people living with HIV and their close relatives. We offer various programs for people with a migrant background. For professionals and interested parties, Aids Hilfe Bern offers training, counselling and informational material. Aids Hilfe Bern was founded in 1985 and is recognized by the Canton of Berne as a counselling center for all questions relating to HIV and sexuality. We are a non-profit organization that is politically independent and non-denominational.
Information and Counselling
We offer information, counselling and educational material regarding:
- Infection risks for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- HIV and STI tests (anonymous and confidential)
- PrEP start-up counseling sessions and progression control
- Psychological counselling for LGBT+
- Counselling for professionals and trainings (schools)
- Counselling for HIV-positive people and their relatives
- Outreach-work
- Community work
Counselling takes place in a confidential and anonymous setting and is free of charge.
Counselling is offered in German, English and French. For counselling in other languages intercultural interpreters are available on request.

Do you want to take an anonymous HIV or STI test?
To migrants, specifically to asylum seekers and sans-papiers, we offer a variety of tests such as HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia (STIs). Testing and counselling are anonymous, confidential and price reduced or free of charge for people who are in financial distress. The rapid HIV test result is available within about fifteen minutes.Aids Hilfe Bern offers tests and counselling in different languages (German, French, English and Spanish). For counselling in other languages intercultural interpreters are available on request.

Are you living with HIV or are you close to someone who is HIV positive?
We offer free face-to-face counselling and support for HIV positive people and their relatives. Counselling can take place on-site, by telephone, email or video conferencing. Consulting contents are:
- Psychosocial issues (e.g. How can I tell someone about my HIV-infection?)
- Health issues (e.g. How does HIV-therapy work?)
- Legal concerns (e.g. work, insurances, travelling)
- Financial concerns
- Administrative support
We emphasize our duty of confidentiality, and we respect needs for anonymity. Counselling is offered in German, French, English and Spanish. Easy-Peasy
Living with HIV? Want to talk to other people with HIV and share your experiences? Organised by Aids Hilfe Bern staff who are living with HIV, Easy-Peasy is a space for people to come together, ask questions and celebrate life. A group chat is hosted on the secure app Threema for virtual, anonymous discussions, while an organised meet-up is held monthly in Bern to facilitate in-person interaction.

We offer training, counselling for professionals and documentary material for specialists in the asylum, integration, educational or social sector, as well as for key personalities and leaders from cultural and religious groups. How to protect yourself against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections?
To protect yourself effectively against HIV and other STIs follow the “Safer Sex Rules”:
- 1. Use a condom for vaginal and anal sex.
- 2. For recommendations based on your personal sexuality, do your own personalised Safer Sex Check.
